円覚寺は、元寇の犠牲者を弔う為に鎌倉幕府の北条時宗を開基とし、宋からの渡来僧・無学祖元（むがく そげん）禅師が開山した臨済宗の禅寺です。

JR北鎌倉駅から歩いてすぐの所に総門（そうもん）があります。
空・無相・無願を象徴する三解脱門（さん げだつ もん）です。その奥に仏殿（ぶつでん）が見えます。
仏殿を近くから。御本尊は宝冠釈迦如来（ほうかん しゃかにょらい）です。
仏殿の天井には白龍図が描かれており、ここで毎朝の暁天座禅（きょうてん ざぜん）が行われます。
仏殿の向かって左側に、選仏場（せんぶつじょう）があります。
選仏場には、参禅用の座布団が山積みになっていました。
選仏場の近くに、第58世住持・曇芳周応（どんぽう しゅうおう）禅師の塔所である済蔭庵（さいいん あん）があります。ここは居士林（こじりん）とも呼ばれていて、山岡鉄舟、鈴木大拙、夏目漱石らが参禅しています。
方丈の入り口です。本来は住職が居住する所を方丈と言うのですが、現在は寺院の行事が催される場所になっています。三門、仏殿、方丈が一直線上に並ぶのが臨済宗の様式です。
方丈から、正伝庵と妙香池を望みます。
境内の奥に塔頭寺院の佛日庵（ぶつにちあん）があります。
佛日庵には、八代執権・北条時宗公の御廟所があります。
佛日庵の近くに白鹿洞（びゃくろくどう）があります。円覚寺開堂の日、無学禅師の説法を聴く為に、この場に人々と白鹿の群れが集まったと言い伝えられています。
境内の最奥に、円覚寺一番の聖地とされる正続院（しょうぞくいん）があります。ここは無学禅師を祀る開山堂と、舎利殿があります。見学は正月三ヶ日、GW、11月上旬のみとなっています。
