禅林寺は黄檗宗(おうばくしゅう)の禅寺です。森鴎外(もりおうがい)や、太宰治(だざいおさむ)の菩提寺としても有名です。
禅林寺の入口は少々分かり辛いですが、禅林寺前の信号が目印になります。
参道と山門(さんもん)を正面から。
参道の向かって右側に駐車場の入口があります。２０分無料です。
山門を近くから。黄檗宗の開祖は、中国臨済宗の正統法嗣である真空大師・隠元隆琦(しんくうだいし・いんげんりゅうき)禅師です。その為、中国風の寺院が多いです。
この石碑には「（ニラやニンニクなどの）臭いの強い野菜と酒は、山門に入る事を許可しない」と彫刻されています。それらは坐禅修行の妨げになるからです。
山門は桃戸(ももと)になっています。中国で桃は神聖な植物とされており、黄檗宗の寺では門の扉に桃をあしらって、勢いよく開く事で魔を祓います。
山門を裏側から。
山門を潜った先に、文豪として有名な森鴎外の遺言碑があります。「余ハ石見人森林太郎トシテ死セント欲ス」の一文で始まる遺言は、非常に有名です。
森鴎外の遺言碑の近くに、弁天堂(べんてんどう)があります。
弁天堂は1958年に建立された、比較的新しい御堂です。
境内の中心付近に、一面二臂の聖観音(しょうかんのん)の像が安置されています。
禅林寺の本堂(ほんどう)です。御本尊は釈迦如来です。
黄檗宗の寺院らしく、本堂も桃戸になっていました。
本堂の向かって左側に、鎮守社の稲荷神社があります。
本堂の向かって右側に、森鴎外や太宰治らが眠る墓所へと続く地下通路があります。
太宰治の墓です。毎年6月19日の桜桃忌(おうとうき)には、全国から多くのファンが集まります。
こちらは森鴎外の墓です。毎年7月9日に鴎外忌(おうがいき)が行われます。
森鴎外の墓は、元は鴎外ゆかりの地である弘福寺(こうふくじ)にありました。現在はここ禅林寺と、島根県の永明寺(ようめいじ)に墓があります。
禅林寺の向かって左側に、八幡大神社(はちまん だいじんじゃ)があります。
禅林寺の境内はかなり広く、JR三鷹駅に土地を貸したという話もあるほどです。八幡大神社も、明治時代までは禅林寺の境内にありました。
拝殿を遠くから。たまたまこの日はお祭りの日でした。
手水舎を正面から。
三鷹市の天然記念物であり、ブナ科の御神木の「すだじい」です。
拝殿を正面から。御祭神は八幡神(はちまんしん)こと応神天皇(おうじんてんのう)です。
拝殿の向かって右側に、神輿と大太鼓がありました。
大太鼓の向かいには神楽殿(かぐらでん)があります。
