屈斜路湖は、日本最大のカルデラ湖です。
屈斜路湖の和琴半島(わこと はんとう)には周遊コースがありますが、一周するのに約一時間ほどかかります。
和琴半島には屈斜路神社(くっしゃろ じんじゃ)があります。御祭神は、平安時代の武将・源義経(みなもと の よしつね)です。義経は京都の鞍馬山で修行を積んだのちに大活躍をしますが、30代前半に岩手県で亡くなりました。しかし、北海道に逃げ延びて、アイヌと交流を深めたとする伝承があります。
