古和秀水は、環境省の日本名水百選に選定されています。
總持寺祖院(そうじじ そいん)の峨山道(がざん どう)や、その東側にある深田太田神社(ふかだおおたじんじゃ)の横道から行くのが一般的ですが、自動車の場合は阿岸川(あぎしがわ)方面から行くのが良いと思います。
どのルートの道も細いものの、古和秀水の周辺はキチンと整備された森林公園になっています。
古和秀水には、子供が汲めば清水、大人が汲めば酒となったという伝説があります。總持寺祖院の御開山・瑩山紹瑾(けいざん じょうきん)禅師が「子は(こは)清水(しゅうど)」という事で命名したそうです。

蹤いて来る 寒さと歩りく 峨山みち。
古和秀水を汲める場所は、二ヵ所あります。
こちらで汲める水は、煮沸してから飲用するようにと説明がありました。
ガラス張りになっている所の、ここから汲めるようです。
こちらの方が水量は少ないですが、そのまま飲む事が出来ます。泉質は柔らかで、美味しい水でした。
瑩山禅師が龍神の神託にて、ここに霊泉が湧く事を教えられたと言い伝えられており、現在でも總持寺祖院の仏事に供えられる水として使われています。
