吉野水分神社の周辺は、上千本(かみせんぼん)と呼ばれる桜の名所として有名です。自動車やバスでも行けますが、金峯山寺(きんぷせんじ)から徒歩で行く方が吉野の山桜を存分に楽しめます。
金峯山寺から少し歩いた所に、韋駄天山(いだてん やま)があります。赤丸の石段を上ってみましょう。
韋駄天(いだてん)を祀る祠がある事から、韋駄天山と呼ばれています。山頂から金峯山寺のの蔵王堂(ざおうどう)を望みます。
韋駄天山から、上千本を望みます。
韋駄天山から少し歩いた所に、桜の名所として知られる吉水神社(よしみず じんじゃ)の鳥居があります。
吉水神社の鳥居の向かい側に、東南院(とうなん いん)という寺院があります。
東南院の開基は、金峯山寺を開山した役行者(えん の ぎょうじゃ)と言われており、約1300年もの歴史があるそうです。昔は仏教宗派の本山を建てる際に、東南の方角にも寺を建てる習慣があり、それがそのまま寺の名前になっています。
東南院の多宝塔(たほう とう)です。元々は和歌山県の野上八幡宮(のがみ はちまんぐう)にあったもののようです。
東南院から少し歩いた所に、勝手神社(かって じんじゃ)があります。
かつて勝手神社の社殿は袖振山(そでふりやま)の手前に建てられていましたが、火災により焼失した為、吉水神社に遷座しました。
勝手神社の背後にある袖振山には、第４０代・天武天皇(てんむてんのう)が皇子の頃に琴を奏でていたら、天女が袖を振りながら舞い降りたという伝説があります。天武天皇は藤原京の造営や、古事記・日本書紀の編纂を命じた実在の人物です。
勝手神社の近くに吉野中千本(なか せんぼん)バス停があり、遠くに如意輪寺(にょいりんじ)と中千本の桜を望めます。
道の途中に、修験道場の護持院・桜本坊(ごじ いん・さくら ほんぼう)があります。
桜本坊から少し歩いた所に、火見櫓(ひみ の やぐら)展望台があります。
火見櫓は、吉野山中の見張りや、狼煙をあげる為の場所でした。
火見櫓から、金峯山寺・蔵王堂を望みます。
火見櫓の近くに、大塔宮仰徳碑(だいとう の みや ぎょうとく ひ)があります。これは皇族・護良親王(もりよし しんのう)の功績を讃える碑です。
火見櫓から少し歩いた所に、雨師観音堂(あまし かんのん どう)の跡地があります。
雨師観音堂から坂道を上っていくと、上千本エリアである事を示す看板が見えてきます。
看板近くの某所から、上千本の桜と、金峯山寺・蔵王堂を望みます。
更に歩いて行くと、かつては金峯山寺の塔頭寺院(たっちゅう じいん)であり、廃寺となった世尊寺(せそんじ)の跡地が見えてきます。御本尊の釈迦如来立像は、金峯山寺・蔵王堂に安置されています。
世尊寺・跡地には、吉野三郎(よしの さぶろう)と呼ばれる鐘があります。東大寺(とうだいじ)の鐘を太郎(たろう)、高野山の鐘を二郎(じろう)と称して、三兄弟として扱っている訳です。
世尊寺・跡地には、花矢倉(はなみ やぐら)と呼ばれる絶景の展望台があります。ここで撮影された写真は、観光PRなどで使われます。
世尊寺の跡地からすぐ近くに、吉野水分神社があります。
鳥居の向かって右側に、小さな駐車場があります。
鳥居をくぐって石段を上った所の左側に、手水舎(ちょうずしゃ)があります。
国の重要文化財に指定されている楼門(ろうもん)です。
境内は、左側の拝殿(はいでん)、中央の幣殿(へいでん)、右側の本殿(ほんでん)で成り立っています。
本殿は、三つの社殿を繋げた珍しい建築様式です。
拝殿には、西行法師(さいぎょう ほうし)の坐像があります。僧侶であり、歌人としても有名だった西行は、ここから約６㎞離れた所に草庵(西行庵)を結びました。
幣殿では子守大明神(こもり だいみょうじん)を祀っています。水分(みくまり)が御子守(みこもり)に変じて、子守宮(こもり の みや)と呼ばれるようになりました。
幣殿の左右には、約６００年前に寄進された神輿(みこし)があります。
個人的には、この神輿は天皇陛下の高御座(たかみくら)や、皇后陛下の御帳台(みちょうだい)に似ていると思いました。
本殿を近くから。御祭神は天之水分大神(あめ の みくまり の おおかみ)、瓊瓊杵尊(ににぎ の みこと)、高皇産霊神(たかみ むすび の おおかみ)です。
本殿の前から、楼門を望みます。
吉野水分神社付近の高台から、金峯山寺・蔵王堂を望みます。ここからだと、蔵王堂は殆ど見えませんね。
